  • 1960 Chevy Bel Air seat cover HELP
Ciadellas usually makes a good product. I suggest you give them a call and see what size foam they based the covers on. Tell them you got bare frames from the customer. They are willing to work with you.
  • Headliner question
I would strip the factory material to avoid any de-lamination problems down the road.
  • Door panel with steel screws
I would agree on the redo but not pay for the material yourself. Unless this is a recurring issue. I don't want to sound too critical but it appears the screws would be secondary to some of the other issues I see.
  • Average amount of hours it should be taking
I get the concept of trying to estimate how long things will take and charge accordingly. The flaw I see in that concept is, if you only charge by how long a job takes you, as you gain experience and get faster you will be making less money for doing the same job that took longer when you were not as fast. As you get faster you need to increase your hourly rate as well.
  • Does anyone know who makes the seats for Singer Porsches?
They do their own. I don't know if they have a shop do them or if they have their own facility. They are looking for experienced trimmers.

All of that was cut from 1/4" sheet. Water jet first then cleaned up and rounded over with a router.
  • Nylon versus Polyester Thread
I operated a trim shop in Arizona for 35 years in that time I did a lot of marine work. I used polyester thread exclusively and never had a job returned because of thread issues. That being said I always tried to keep exposed stitching to a minimum.
  • Technique help sewing a half circle
I agree with the last two comments, also try flipping your material over so the selvage is on the right side.
  • Wine stain on leather
Most automotive leathers are so heavily coated these days that it probably didn't soak in. First step is always blot up any liquid (not in this case). Next step is a damp cloth and rub the area, if that doesnt work try with some mild soap and a damp cloth (Dawn dish washing liquid is my go to). If you want to try something stronger after that then do like you said in an inconspicuous spot first.

  • Why are so many shops offline?
Susan, It may be time to hire someone part time to do some of the other tasks that take your time away from generating revenue. If you can pay them less than your hourly rate to do the job, you may be money ahead to keep cranking out work and let someone else do some of the other tasks.

  • Do you use a Serger in your shop?
If you have noticed most of the seats produced in the last 20 years or so have the cover material sewn to the foam or mesh with a serger.
  • 2010 Camaro Alcantara headliner
I found this on a Camaro forum. Apparently it can be done. Passenger seat removed and shifter towards the rear of the car. and it will come out.

  • 2010 Camaro Alcantara headliner
I have noticed some of the problem stems from all of the extra stuff that is getting installed to the back of the headliner boards. Styrofoam or plastic to help with noise and vibration. It makes the board thicker and stiffer. Like Jens stated I can't imagine with the size of those doors and the rear quarter glass open the headliner wouldn't fit through.
  • Patterning techniques
Garrett, I would be happy to help with any questions. it could be something you are doing in cutting or sewing the actual cover also.
  • Headliner installation
I found it easier to unplug the harness than to remove all of the wires from the headliner and risk a rattle down the road.
  • Where to buy oem cloth for older vehicles? Detroit books?
I have has some good experiences with SMS. Almost as many good as bad ones. I learned to ask at the time of ordering if the fabric was actually in stock or if they had to get it from somewhere or make it. If it isn't in stock, I don't order because chances are you will never see it.
  • Glittery carpet
You could also check with ACC, they have some odd ball stuff they dont sample.
  • Thread holder
I have made and used the boards however like Fred said, if they are not covered they tend to get dusty so I started storing them in a cabinet.
  • Sewing square/small radius corner help
Sew the welt to the boxing first, as you are sewing the boxing and welt to the panel when you get to the corner, snip the boxing and welt at the corner so it makes the corner without stretching the selvedge. the corner should be nice and tight then.
