I haven’t done it but you fix it like you wouldnanything else, but where the seam is suppose to split you use a thinner thread like 69.

  • Seat panel pattern stitching
I actually did the same thing made some diamond templates. Picked a random size I thought looked good and cut them out. Them like a week later I saw a the video where they show how they did the stitch count.

I know with leather seat prime they make all their measurements fractions of design lengths. So on the pic above say the long horizontal line is 60mm and the angled line is 20mm so they set the machine at a 5mm stitch. This way the lengths are divisible by 5 and end up an equal number of stitches. I hope that makes sense
  • Do you use a Serger in your shop?
Is there a difference between a garment Seger and an upholstery one?

Thanks for the input guys. I didn’t think of the area of no glue. Makes total sense on how that would help transition the seam with no edge

Here is an international scout dash I finished wrapping. I don’t do much wrapping so I’m happy with the results and learned along the way. 2 questions. What’s the best way to keep your seam straight then gluing? Also to avoid the ledge when the seam is glued down, should I have foam backed it, or trimmed it closer to the stitch and the stitch would have tricked the eye to not see the ledge?

I’ve labeled my vinyl with the vanilla tags that have the metal wires on one end. Just stab it through a corner and twist the wires. That way the tag sticks out the end of the wrack. Use to just tape them on with masking tape but left a residue or the tape came off. But sometimes I wish I didn’t have a hole in the material as I needed the roll to the end. I guess I should have clarified as to more what are your labeling techniques.

I’m in the same boat. It seems like every year someone gets my info. I haven’t had luck finding which site it is. The card is my personal not business and gets used more often and at a lot of places. I tend to feel it’s amazon to be honest. I can’t verify this. My wife uses amazon all the time and never had an issue. So idk. I’ve learned to keep a good eye on my account anymore to stop it right away. Best of luck

I wondered about a cabinet, with the thought it looks better with the doors closed. Then I grilled that same night and got into my spice and seasoning cabinet....couldn’t find a thing as it was all just tossed in there. I feel even if I were to try eventually it would follow my seasonings. Maybe I’ll try and come up with the best of both worlds.

The dowel method is probably what I’ll do. But was wonder if angled like chris has would be better vs flat.

Here’s my work. it’s almost embarrassing putting it up with all this work from others so much better. Customer wanted it all white and simpler. Little plain for me but that’s okay

I’d like to thank Fred for taking the time to call and talk with me about my question. He did more than that and talk about his experiences, good and bad and how he’s achieved a place in his career he’s happy with. Thanks Fred. If anyone needs help or has questions give him a call.

happen to have a link of a good supplier of the upholstery denim?
  • Listing material
sorry the typar is what I was refering to. It has a welt like cord presewn into it. I order from Albright’s. I was just looking for it to take a pic but in the midst of spring cleaning and now I can’t find it. I’ve thought of denim or thin canvas. I saw the headliner listing but agree that’s to light weight for this. On these Audi seats some of the listings at just the leather folded over and sewn into a pocket also. Just looking for a sense of what others use here.

Albright. I like I can see their prices online vs a lot
Of shops you have to call during hours. I work a lot out of the normal day and like that I can order or quote things 24/7

  • covering steering wheel air bags
Not to run off topic but I often do older seats that don’t have airbags, but when you redo a seat with side airbags do you have to do anything different so the seam breaks etc when the bag goes off?
  • Make your own tartan fabric
That’s a cool looking color scheme. Would like to hear from the person you did the work for how they feel it’s holding up from the pics you shared it looks good to me?!
  • who does flat bottom steering wheels
Id like to see what foam or product you use to put back on the wheel and sculpt it.

I saw on a metal forum once that if you take any metal you cut off and remove and melt it down to a welding rod shape, you can use that along with a torch to “weld” the pot metal back together. They say it’s best to use original scraps or pot metal from extra parts for the same era and car it’s works best. Thinking that as they’re built the pot metal contents will change and not weld as good.
