• Softening leather
Hey guys, thanks for your input, greatly appreciated! I’m probably looking at making new covers, but I plan to contact the customer and then maybe try to pull the cover off and repair. I think I have a rock solid 2.35% of it working... Jesse, you mentioned last one you used a kit. Was that a whole seat kit or does someone offer just the headrests? It would be nice if someone already produced them in blue, sourcing the matching leather might be tricky. Thanks.
  • Convertible rear windows
Anyone have thoughts on using heat on the plastic windows? I have this one at the shop that is just about perfect but has a slight ripple near the right edge. Outside in the sun you can’t see it, only when it’s inside. I think a little time in the hot sun will take care of it. In the past I’ve used both heat gun and steam on them, always seems like a crap shoot, sometimes you get the result you want, sometimes it doesn’t do what you thought it should. Just looking for experience on what seems to consistently work, thanks

Thanks Robert, much appreciated. It’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one who wrestles with stuff like that. I have one here today that I am just about to that point. I’ll carefully try to readjust at rear bow as you suggested, if I get about an 1/8 or 3/16 out of it, I think it will be spot on. I can also adjust a little at the header as well. I have learned to add 1/2” to the bow height when putting on pads, as the extra 1/2” will disappear through the process. Thanks again
  • What machine do you guys use for French / double seams?
Thanks you guys, this is exactly the input I was looking for. I definitely need to move on something, what it will be is yet to be determined, i’m considering all your comments as I consider this. And a post machine, I didn’t think of that but I can see where there would be times that would be slick as well.

Thank you for your insight, that is very helpful. Have you ever wished it were a long arm? I guess the only thing I get hung up on is working on door panels, it’s nice to have the luxury of a long arm, but costs more. Bottom line, I think I am over thinking it, I could probably make good use of a standard length double needle like you guys have.
  • What machine do you guys use for French / double seams?
Thanks for the reply. So, the double needle was a sizable investment. Did you ever second guess the investment or was the benefit well worth the cost? I ask because I’m a one guy shop, would love to have a double needle, long arm one would be better yet, but have to justify the expense. So I’m debating between a new machine, a used machine or just keep doing what i’m doing. I’d prefer a used machine but they’re hard to find. I know of an older long arm singer, but i’d have over $2000 in it by the time the gauge was changed. What’s a guy to do...

Thanks Robert, appreciate the feedback. That makes it a whole lot more straightforward!
