Wondering if anyone has found a good alternative for Alcantara? We use it quite a bit at my shop, but since they decided to only supply oem manufacturers, Gulf fabrics selection is dwindling. I've spoken with my rep at Gulf several times, and apparently they are trying to find a suitable replacement for it, but have not found one to their liking.
Thanks for the response Andy. I looked through their website, and while there is still an Alcantara tab, the page no longer exists. I will contact them tomorrow, but I'd expect it will be the same case with them. According to my current distributor, Alcantara is no longer being sold to wholesalers, they are only providing material for OEM use. This happened within the last year.
The article you linked says that they are North America's largest distributor of Alcantara, but if you look ar Alcantara's website, they no longer list any distributor for the US. I'll be calling Hydes shortly to find out if it is still available through them or not, and I'll post what I find out from them.
Search for Dinamica...(Mercedes and Mini are using it for example....) or Comfort (from Mah.de in Germany with an online shop) ...Both Materials are very good competitors to Alcantara...For both there are different backings depends on what you want to use for...
As Krunoslav had already said, Dinamica and Comfort would be an alternative. I don't like the microfibre of Dynamica as much as I do with Alcantara. The fibres are not as fine as in the Alcantra.
There are two great advantages to the Comfort of the MAH they have a very great deep black. In contrast, Alcantara's "deep black" still appears anthracite. (A photo for comparison: I combined black Bentley Nappa with the black Comfort) And this black is also available with a waterproof coating on the back. Schauenburg also has a wide range of microfibre fabrics (I think it should be Dynamica)
