A customer has dropped in a steering wheel to be retrimmed, but the foam is totally gone. Normally I start with wheels that have good foam with only minor repairs needed, but this foam has completely turned to dust.
The steering wheel has sentimental value, so it has to be this wheel rather than finding a better one.
I've searched for round section high density foam but can't find anything. Does such a thing exist or am I going to have to cut and shape it from high density sheet? It's a fairly basic design, no indents or sculpted shapes, just round foam.
Any advice or sources for foam would be great! I'm UK based but don't mind importing the right product, there's so much more choice in the US.
Perhaps you first would have to make a 'rigid mold' (metallic or wood frame) where the foam would be injected. I have heard there are some places where the 'polyurethane resins' to make foam in different densities are sold, and they also offer some kind of related advisement to their customers.
Hopefully some of these ideas would help to solve the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wh5nr0IChA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnwgMmqY4RI
Sorry for the late response. Thanks for all the replies. My customer is having a break from the project so the steering wheel is on the back burner for a bit, but I'm going to go with the moulding option as I can't seem to find anything off the shelf.
