It's way past time to buy new scissors. I've had Wiss, Mundial, etc... I've been considering the KAI shears. Do they really last any better than the others?
I have both Wiss and KAI. The Wiss are more substantial, more of a general purpose tool. The KAI are a bit lighter but are incredibly sharp. I am extra careful when using them. You could easily cut yourself. With that said, they are a pleasure to use. I use them when precision is of the upmost. I think you will be very pleased with them.
I have several pairs of scissors, but have never used Kai's yet. I find it most important to find someone who can do a good job sharpening them. I'm sure a lot of you sharpen them yourself but I don't. I found a guy that sharpens hair dresser shears and he uses a power hone of some sorts, not a grinding wheel. What a difference that makes. Also because he removes so little metal the shears last a lot longer
I'm a day late and a dollar short, but recently I was introduced to the Kretzer, Finny carpet shears. For the price, I had to try them. I use Kai in my shop as well, and you just cant beat them on sharpness and precision. I have found Great used pairs for $35-40 on amazon. A new pair will set you back $70. But when I saw these Finny's, I had to try them. They work so good for the price, I purchased all the help in the shop a pair. Nothing like looking for a pair of scissors and spend 5-10 minutes looking for a pair. Add that up and the frustration, and having multiple scissors on hand at any given moment that do the job is invaluable. I have 4 full time trimmers, including myself and we don't have time to look for tools. These Finny's are the way to go for the price point and effectiveness.
Now comes the real question. Who makes true left hand shears? Not ones with a reverse handle but reversed blades. Many years ago you could buy them but I have not been able to locate any in the past 10 years.
