I have to bind some carpet for the back of a seat frame where people’s shoes rub the most on a 1946 Buick. The original binding is separate pieces that are just overlapped at the corners and look horrible. How do other bind a square corner with one piece? I’ve tried and it seems to round the corner. Is the best option to add a diagonal seam at each corner sewn together and then bind that way?
@Cody Lunning Instead of sewing a diagonal seam (which does make for a nice square corner) have you tried doing a neat 'fold' with the binding, then stitch over the top of the crease. It will lay down nice and flat and maintain that square corner.
It is unfortunate, but before the website was updated there were some excellent tutorials on carpet bindings. It would be great if they could be made available again.
Pics are always better for me too.I learn a lot from upholsterers pics on instagram.I don't know if the above way is an official upholsterers way, I picked it up from a clothes sewing book.
Forgot to mention I cut away some of the bulk from the corner before rolling and top stitiching.I don't often do it this way now as I prefer to just roll and top stitch leaving a raw edge to sink into the pile of the carpet.
