I search for the selected fabric on the sample card. This was processed by Karmann in the 70s in the Porsche 914 and VW Scirocco. Unfortunately, there is no longer a European supplier. Does anyone of you know a supplier for this substance? I have so far only Autoatlanta as a supplier. However, $ 200 is unfortunately very expensive, since I still have to pay freight, duty and tax.
I've paid more than $300 per yard for rare auto fabrics. Supply and demand rules the market. If your customer demands it, then that's the price they have to pay. Not to say that it doesn't hurt to try finding it cheaper. Good luck.
Check with Hydes Leather. They offer some original Porsche tartan fabrics. Tell Aaron, the owner, that The Hog Ring sent you. He's a great guy, will treat you right.
Hi guys, try http://westtrading.nl/homepage.asp?language=UK . We get al our original material from here, i recently Purchased 2 meters off mk 7 goft gtd check fabric and it was €50 a meter. I hope this helps you out
West Trading BV is one of the best address for OEM Cloth and have a really good online catalog There are also Antex Case and Franz Josepf Döpper or finally you ask me - i will help where i can ;)
I wouldn't be surprised if Auto Atlanta gets it from SMS. We deal with AA quite a bit, as my shop specialises in air-cooled Porsches, they're good guys to deal with too.
I feel your pain, the last interior I did, the customer wanted woven leather for seat inserts and a few other areas, it was just over $800 per yard, and I think we needed 4-5.
It's definitely not the easiest stuff to work with. I've only used it a couple of times and I'd definitely say the size of the weave plays a huge role in it's pliability. The last stuff is in the car I posted in the custom interiors thread, the weave is roughly 1/2" x 1" so it's pretty coarse and doesn't do compound curves very well. There were a few pieces where I actually had to pullI apart the weave to wrap some corners and re-weave it as I worked around the corners. It was a ton of work, but they turned out pretty sweet. I did used some that was 1/4" x 1/4" a few months ago and it was much easier to work with.
They are usually lightly glued to a backing cloth, but I sew around the edges once they are cut out to keep things from moving around too much while sewing the pieces together.
I usually get the "German vinyl" headliners from Sierra Madre if we are installing a vinyl headliner. Most of our builds are more along the lines of a restomod, than a restoration, so we aren't really worried about them being 100% correct. A lot of them get perforated Alcantara.
World Upholstery may carry the correct stuff. I've used their stuff before, it's very nice. Also GAHH is another possibility. Hope that helps.
