  • Cessna aircraft seat question..
Hi Joe - thank you for the feed back and everyone else of course. Could you share with us suppliers of certified materials you favor in addition to the two mentioned above. It would be great if more of the Hog ring community could share their aviation Upholstery knowledge. Thanks again.
  • How to insert piping between French seem.
Thanks. I tried that but it still looked too hi. I am going to give it another try. Thanks again for the feedback. Looks great.
  • Uk bike seat foam
I use to do mini bike and go kart seats. The mini bike seats were usually 3 to 3 1/2 inches high. I found rebound foam made a great base. It is extremely firm. You would build up about 2” of rebond and the next layers with a firmness to your likes. Btw, rebond is the foam used under rugs. This maybe what you call chipped foam. It works use it again.
  • Separating cloth from foam
I tried steam and I worked well! Thanks all.
  • Custom foam seat (listing)
What is normal Velcro vs hard hook? I am not familiar with it. Thanks.
  • Separating cloth from foam
Hi- thanks for the suggestions. I am going to give stream a try.
  • machine top side tension assembly
As stated earlier, Ebay a new assembly. If you remove the “tiny bar” it would allow the disk to rotate and wrap the thread around it. Just what I think would happen without a test. They put it there for a reason. If you are so inclined pull the tiny bar out and give it a try. I would really like to see if my theory is correct. That assembly is really easy to just swap out. Good luck.
  • Patterning techniques
It is always great to see how someone else does a particular procedure. It is the point of this forum, I believe, to share and educate. I am looking forward to your tutorial.
  • Staplers
    Here is what I have.

    Fasco long nose 3/8
    Senco model J 1/2
    Senco SJS 3/8.

I purchased the long nose last and it should have been my first. I am hard pressed to think of situations where the long nose would not work. The one advantage of the Senco SJS is it will handle 5/32 staples where the Fasco lower limit is 1/4. As far as 1/2 vs 3/8, I like having both and matching the staple to the job. While not listed, I have two construction narrow crown staplers for wood structures. I feel they are better suited to plywood assemblys then air nailers. The thin small head can easily pull through thin plywood. A narrow crown construction grade staple does the job.
  • Thoughts on cutting foam
I reasonably purchased a “pre owned” Bosch foam saw for $45. That was a price I could live with. It seems to me that the motor unit should not be any more expensive then a quality jig saw. If you have to have a brand new one, consew seems to have purchased the product.
The average price is around $450. Pure principle alone prevented me from buying brand new.

  • Where did the old how-to guides go?
I hope that the previous forum posts, whether how to do or just general posts, are put back on line. The amount of information available was phenomenal. For example finishing the edge of a rug if you searched that topic it would return multiple posts. The combination was a complete "how to finish a rug edge" guide. This is what the industry needs. Formal training is far and few between! I have not seen a new book on Uphostery in forever. The Hog Ring is the best vehicle for ongoing skill development. All the posts from the archive form a library of upholstery industry knowledge. Let's all do what we can to contribute and reap the benefits. For me it is the inspiration to keep pushing myself. Using the rug edge example, I sat down at the machine and experimented. I am looking forward to up and coming posts..
