  • Patterning techniques
Sorry to bring up a dead thread. But have you tried carpet shield? I just picked some up for moving and it would seem to be a better option.
  • Glue fumes/breathing apparatus
The VOC’s will still linger. I would get in contact with a commercial hvac company and get them to put in an air exchanger that should cycle out all the air.
  • Softening leather
Them GTO’s are notorious for that. I don’t know if it’s the leather or lack of conditioning during ownership but I have done quite a few of them. Last one I just ordered a kit for the car.
  • Tesla "vegan leather" UK
It’s a new marketing term for vinyl. Sounds better than vinyl and more eco-friendly.
  • Splitting a bench seat...
have you looked at fitting in a split bench from a different car? say a mid 90s chevy truck
  • How much to charge for re-carpeting a bass boat
Takes anywhere between 20-30 hours. Usually for measuring I take bow to Steven and double the amount of carpet to order. Don’t forget you will be ripping apart all the wiring for everything so take pics as you go.
  • Katzkin install hrs.
you need to start selling yourself. Differentiate from “cheaper” guy. Sell that your quality over price. Sometimes you can’t win them all, and that’s ok.
  • Duplicating these diamonds
I would also assume that but it looks like in 2 steps. The red thread is done first then add scrim, then align everything back up and start the black stitching.
  • Custom Car Cover
We use Aqualon edge soft. Comes in some colors.
  • Recommended Threads to sew Air Plane upholstery
Any poly thread is fine. Just have to have your burn certificates for the other stuff. We have purchased foam, velcro, webbing, and vinyl from skandia.
  • Where to buy Convertible Tops from?
Electron tops for domestic. I have found that I like the fit of GAHH for the European cars better.
I did have a domestic car that I ordered from GAHH as electron did not have the brackets to make the top and wanted me to cut them out, send it in all while the car would have been taking up shop space. Which was a no-go for me.
  • What type of carpeting is this?
    yfjAel4.jpeg
I’ve used this before it’s thinner than super flex
  • Have a price in mind but not sure is it right
I would be around $200-250 also. Figure 2.5 hrs at most and around 50 for cloth, vinyl, and foam.
  • 1952 Willys Jeep
The newer military trucks use cordura, it has a water resistant coating on the underside.
  • Convertible Top Adhesive
When I do them, I make sure to inform the customer there is no warranty what so ever. It’s a temporary fix at best till they can replace the top. And I will only do them if they are not separating more than just the bottom half.
  • Convertible Top Adhesive
We use windshield urethane. Lots of prepping and masking as it’s messy.
  • Tips for clean headliner

No I use the baking soda when it’s stickers balls and smears. It’s usually the euro cars that are sticky, but I had a crossfire that was a mess.
  • Tips for clean headliner
If it’s a sticky mess I’ll use baking soda and a tire brush. I’ll normally use a sander with 36 grit. In the tight creases and curves I’ll use a “stripping cup”3hzs68j0vb89pp8l.jpg
  • Website Security
Marc, your point is valid. But it looks like THR does have a certificate but it is expired. The forum portion should be using https. The sub domain for the store is up and running so you are safe to order from there.
  • Cessna aircraft seat question..
actually the owner is liable. You just have to provide the material burn certificates, and the plane’s mechanic signs off that the work was done correctly. If you feel uncomfortable that’s fine. If you are doing an ultralight home built, or antique you do have more flexibility. One of my customers is an A&P. I actually sewn up the fuselage and wings for him.
  • Cessna aircraft seat question..
When I had done one a couple years ago, I had asked Skandia, if I needed a special glue. They told me that I was fine with using what I had on hand, which is what you are using.
  • Sewing Traning.
For just sewing machines I usually search for a specific machine. But thejasonofalltrades has a bunch of videos on all types of machines. He also has some little tips and tutorials. Another channel is sail rites, yes they pimp their wares but they do have some good project videos too.
  • Gel Pad
I place the gel pad on top mark out where I want it. Cut out the entire marked out section.
Try and cut out an inch from the middle of the piece. Glue up the sandwich back in the rest of the foam. I also usually add some scrim foam to the top before putting the cover on.
  • 600 Watts 110 Volt Servo Motor for Industrial Sewing Machines
Not quite 600 watts but we have 2 consew csm1001’s that are great. We bought them a few years apart one on amazon and the other from a local dealer. Prices were pretty close, shipping was faster from Amazon.
  • Scanning patterns
I would like to find a way to use a digital pattern but I have not figured how it would save time or money for a small shop. I get it if you are pumping out lots of cutting where you and have an employee just cutting the same pattern vs a cnc cutter.
There’s also autometrix’s cadshot where you just use an android phone or tablet to take a pic and it does the rest.
